Job Description

HireIQ is partnering with a growing engineering and construction business to appoint an experienced Project Accountant.

This is a hands-on project accounting position covering the full project lifecycle, with responsibility for billing, job costing, revenue recognition, collections and project closeout. The successful candidate will work closely with Project Managers and operational teams to ensure projects are billed accurately, costs are properly captured and cash flow is effectively managed.

The role would suit someone with strong A/E/C project accounting experience who is comfortable managing a high-volume portfolio and working directly with both internal project teams and clients.

The Role

  • Manage project accounting from initial setup through final closeout
  • Prepare and review AIA billing and progress applications
  • Maintain accurate job costing, budgets and project financial information
  • Support revenue recognition and month-end accounting
  • Monitor accounts receivable and actively support collections
  • Manage approximately $8M in monthly receivables activity
  • Support an accounts receivable portfolio of approximately $15M across 700+ accounts
  • Process and track retainage, lien waivers and certified payroll documentation
  • Review project costs, billing status and outstanding receivables with Project Managers
  • Assist with change orders and contract administration
  • Ensure billing and project documentation is accurate and compliant
  • Support project closeouts and final account reconciliation
  • Partner with accounting and operations teams to improve project cash flow and reporting

What We’re Looking For

  • Previous Project Accountant experience within engineering, construction or a closely related A/E/C environment
  • Strong understanding of AIA billing, job costing and project accounting
  • Experience with revenue recognition and month-end processes
  • Knowledge of retainage, lien waivers and certified payroll
  • Comfortable managing a high-volume portfolio of projects and receivables
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work directly with Project Managers
  • Experience with Sage 300 and/or Textura is highly desirable
  • Strong Excel skills and attention to detail
