Salary: $70,000 - $90,000 

An established and growing project-based contractor is looking for a Billing Specialist to join its accounting team in Long Island.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with early-to-mid-career experience in construction, project or contract billing who wants to develop within a more complex billing environment.

The company works across commercial, institutional, municipal and government projects, including work involving New York City agencies.

The Role

You will support project billing across multiple customers and projects, including:

• Preparing and submitting project invoices

• Progress, milestone, contract and time-and-material billing

• Reviewing purchase orders, contracts and billing requirements

• Assisting with schedules of values and change-order billing

• Reviewing timesheets, labor, materials and other project documentation

• Collecting supporting documentation required for customer invoicing

• Working with Project Managers and internal teams to resolve missing information

• Maintaining accurate billing records within accounting and ERP systems

• Tracking billing deadlines and outstanding submissions

• Assisting with rejected invoices and invoice corrections

• Supporting month-end billing and project closeout

• Learning government and municipal billing requirements, including certified payroll and prevailing wage documentation

What We’re Looking For

• 2+ years of billing, project accounting or construction accounting experience

• Experience preparing invoices in a project-based environment

• Construction, electrical, low-voltage, HVAC, engineering or similar industry experience preferred

• Exposure to progress billing, T&M, change orders or contract billing

• Experience reviewing purchase orders or customer billing requirements

• Government, municipal or public-works billing experience is a plus

• Certified payroll or prevailing wage exposure is a plus

• Good Excel and accounting-system skills

• Strong attention to detail and organizational ability

• Comfortable working with multiple projects and billing deadlines

• Willingness to learn more complex project and government billing processes
